Indications:

Acute febrile disorder of the head (Da Tou Wen) due to wind heat, damp phlegm and seasonal epidemic heat toxins presenting with sudden onset of strong fever and chills, severe sore throat, redness, swelling and burning pain of the throat, head and face, severe headache, inability to open the eyes, nasal obstruction and pain, dry throat and mouth, thirst for cold liquids, swollen lymph nodes, achy neck and shoulders, possibly burning upper body pain. Tongue: red or red tip with a yellow coat Pulse: rapid, forceful, floating. **

Biomedical Applications:

Epidemic parotitis, strep throat, tonsillitis, severe sore throat, suppurative otitis media, sinusitis, rhinitis, lymphadenitis, cellulitis of the head and face, erysipelas, contact dermatitis, measles, infectious meningitis, scarlet fever. *

Standard Dosage:

8 pills, 3 x day.

Clinical Dosage:

Administer half an hour before or one hour after eating. In acute or severe disorders, dosage may be increased to 8-12 pills every 2-4 hours, then reduced to a maintenance dose as the treatment takes effect. May be used short-term for few days to a few weeks. Once acute heat symptoms are resolved, this formula should be discontinued, and replaced with a milder formula. This is a very cold and bitter formula, and can easily damage the Spleen and Stomach Qi.**

Scutellaria baicalensis root-wine fried, Coptis chinensis rhizome-wine fried, Scrophularia ningpoensis root, Platycodon grandiflorum root, Bupleurum chinense root, Citrus reticulata peel, Glycyrrhiza uralensis root, Forsythia suspensa fruit, Arctium lappa fruit, Mentha haplocalyx herb, Lasiosphaera fenzlii puff-ball, Isatis indigotica root, Bombyx mori, Cimicifuga heracleifolia rhizome. – Jiu chao huang qin, Jiu chao huang lian, Xuan shen, Jie geng, Chai hu, Chen pi, Gan cao, Lian qiao, Niu bang zi, Bo he, Ma bo, Ban lan gen, Jiang can, Sheng ma.

Cautions & Contraindications:

Use with caution in Yin deficiency. Use with caution in hemorrhagic disorders or with patients on anti-coagulant therapy.**
